It can be very fun to read a thermometer and be able to tell your teacher or parents how hot or cold it is somewhere. Sometimes, you may feel very hot and want to know how hot it is. Sometimes, it can be cold and you may want to know how cold it is. There are a lot of easy ways to help you read a thermometer and it can all be started right in the classroom or your own home.

The good thing about your house is that you most likely have something to help you tell the temperature. Be sure to ask your parents where it is and they can help you with it. The first thing you should do is find a printable practice thermometer online and print it out. Once you do that, you will have a big thermometer with a bunch of numbers on it. These numbers tell you how hot or cold it is in your house. When you ask your mom or dad how hot or cold it is, you will color in from the bottom of the thermometer all the way up to the number. If it is 70 degrees in your house, you will color red from the bottom circle all the way to the top to the 70 spot. That is the easiest way to begin reading the temperature and recording it. You should do this every day when you come home from school so you can see how the temperature changes and how the weather outside affects your house.

Sometimes when it snows, that number will dip all the way to the 10 or 20 spot. When it is really hot outside and there aren’t any clouds in the sky, it may reach the 80 or 90 spot. Everyone has different temperatures and you should look at your friend’s thermometer to see how their temperatures are different from yours. If you ask nicely, your parents may even let you set the temperature to exactly what you want and then you can feel how you have control over the temperature in your own house! Trade thermometer paper with your friends and see how their house is different from your house, and if you would want their temperatures! At the end of the week, start it over and you can even help your parents keep it on the temperature that they want at all times!
